The big day is marked on your calendar, the day you’ll welcome your precious bundle of joy into your home. Oh, the miracle of walking into the hospital as 2 and leaving as a family of 3 (or more)! Now’s the perfect time to prepare for your baby’s homecoming.

There are essentials you'll need and beautiful touches you’ll want to make this special occasion as smooth and memorable as possible. Whether you’re a first-time parent or adding another cutie to your crew, this guide has got everything you need to know.

A befitting coming-home outfit

Once the nurse removes that tiny ID bracelet and hospital onesie, it’s time to get your baby dressed for the very first time. The first outfit your baby will wear is more than just clothing - it’s a cherished memento of your baby’s first day at home. You’ll want to choose a coming-home outfit that’s soft and breathable to keep your baby comfortable throughout the transition from hospital to home. And of course, you’ll want a special set befitting the baby’s grand debut.

We’ve teamed up with Feltman Brothers to bring you gorgeous and timeless baby layette. Their vintage styles are perfect for making that first trip home unforgettable, and many parents save their outfits forever as a keepsake of joyful memories.

The coming home gowns are a classic. Available in both woven and knitted cotton, they have beautiful options for both baby boys and girls. Besides the gorgeous details, they’re also convenient with an open bottom for easy changing. Many of the sets include the sweetest booties and bonnets, but if not, you can add them on separately.

Keep your little prince or princess cozy with a beautiful blanket during chilly weather or in an air-conditioned car. Check out the luxe girl blankets and boy blankets for that beautiful, finishing touch.

A car seat for the ride home

Before you leave the hospital, you'll need a car seat. It's not just a good idea - it's the law!

Make sure you choose a car seat that fits your car and is suitable for your baby’s size and weight. Bonus: look for one that’s easy to install and can adjust as your baby grows.

The Doona makes life so easy by converting from an infant seat to a stroller and vice versa. And the Nuna Pipa and Maxi Cosi car seats are each light-weight and stroller-compatible; two great options that moms love.

Pssst, first-time Dads:

Good idea to practice installing that car seat a few times so you’ll be a super-dad pro when you carry your baby into the car for the anticipated ride home.

A stocked diaper bag

Babies need a lot of stuff at all times, so you’ll appreciate having the essentials on hand for the ride home.

Invest in a diaper bag with plenty of pockets and storage for all the important items. Many strollers come with coordinating bags for a complete look.

Stock your diaper bag with burp cloths to gently wipe any messes along the way, and don’t forget the pacifiers. They are total lifesavers, especially during car rides. It helps soothe your baby and can make the transition from hospital to home much smoother.

Choose pacifiers that are BPA-free and designed for newborns. And be sure to have more than one on hand, as they tend to disappear! A pacifier clip is a smart and stylish way to keep them safe & secure.

Another reason for a going-home diaper bag:

Many times, the hospital will let you take home any leftover diapers, shampoo, and lotion from your baby’s bassinet, so tuck those into your diaper bag. Baby gear is expensive, and you’ll see soon enough how handy those extras can be!

A camera on-hand

Last, but definitely not least, make sure that your camera or iPhone is well-charged and ready to  snap away. Get pics of Mom, Dad, Baby and any friends or family that came to be with you on this special day.

The first day you bring your baby into your home is a wondrous occasion of joy and love, so capture these precious moments to look back on forever.

Welcome home baby!
